What is NIE?
The NIE (Foreigner Identity Number) is a number that identifies foreigners in Spain. Non-EU students are shown a NIE number that will be activated when applying for the TIE (Foreigner Identification Card). EU students must specifically request the NIE to carry out various legal and administrative procedures, such as opening a bank account, signing rental contracts, doing internships, etc.
